Seattle cruise ship port

Seattle is a world center for banking, marketing and business, home to enormous corporations such as Starbucks, Real Networks, Amazon. The city of Seattle has two cruise ports – the downtown premier Bell Street Pier, and the two miles north downtown Smith Cove Piers. Both terminals are operated by “Cruise Terminals of America”. Seattle operates only in summer as a cruise port, due to the harsh and long winter in Alaska. The majority of travelers who booked on voyages from Seattle arrive by plane at Sea-Tac airport, and then go to their terminal by cab or shuttle bus.

Alaska cruises from Seattle WA

Cruises from Seattle feature a different Alaska route than cruises from Vancouver. The round-trip additional mileage is more than 300 miles, and the quickest Alaska route is following the Vancouver island’s ocean side. Such an outside passage route is stormy and rough through the Pacific ocean. For two sea days there is not much picturesque land scenery.

Ships more often don’t make a stop at Victoria on the Vancouver island’s coast, since foreign-flagged vessels that operate in US waters have to include in their itinerary a stop in non-US port. An exciting route is 7-day return trip, calls at Tracy Arm Fjord, Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan. Enjoy the spectacular mountain and coastal panoramas, mighty glaciers and historic towns. When the cruise season in Seattle finishes, a variety of repositioning exciting vacations to far-away places like California, Florida, Asia are available.

What to see on Seattle cruise shore excursions?

  • Seattle Pioneer Square – this is the location of the first timber mill in Seattle, and center of the original town. The fire in 1889 destroyed all Seattle wooden houses and today this area is distinguished by late 19th century stone-brick buildings, bursting with stunning architecture, art galleries, bookshops. Pioneer Square is southwards (about a mile) of Bell Street Pier.
  • Space Needle – It’s 605 ft high, with an exciting viewing level. Watch the magnificent views of Seattle city center, Washington Lake, Puget Sound, the far-off mountains. Pamper with a dinner at SkyCity, the rotating restaurant of the tower, turning once per hour.
  • Seattle Aquarium – Offering a variety of interesting ocean creatures. The Aquarium is situated by Pier 59, and features award winning exhibits. Take a rest at the Aquarium cafe, then find presents in the aquarium shop.
  • Olympic Sculpture Park – It contains a series of abstract and provoking sculptures, and offers unforgettable view over Olympic mountains and Puget Sound. This park is on the coastline, north west of Bell Street Pier.
  • Pike Place Market – Among the small number of US farmers’ city markets with a huge number of stalls, this provides many goods arriving straight from farms. It’s busy and crowded, next to Bell Street Pier.
  • Museum of Flight – Check out the WWII fighter planes’ collection, the traffic control tower, mockup of International Space Station, the amazing Shuttle space plane. Try the flight simulator and your plane pilot’s skills. The Museum is four miles southwards of downtown.
  • Seattle Art Museum Downtown – Artworks from all over the globe at this biggest for the whole region art museum. Choose a free gallery tour through the variety of temporary and permanent exhibitions, and don’t forget the café offering home-cooked food.
