Carnival Dream cruise ship incident 2013
(March 14, 2013) - while docked in the port of St Maarten (Great Bay), the ship suffered a technical issue with its backup emergency generator during its scheduled testing. Although the propulsion and primary power were not impacted, CCL decided to not risk to let it sail without an operational back-up. While the Dream's personnel was working on the problem, Carnival decided to fly all passengers home via private charters and regular flights departing from the St Maarten airport. As a compensation, all guests received a refund equal to 3-day cost of the canceled voyage, plus 50% off a future sailing. The March 16 sailing was also cancelled, passengers received a full refund, 25% off a future 7-day sailing, plus reimbursement of any non-refundable transportation expenses.
