Saga Holidays cruise ship review
The U.K.-based Saga Holiday’s Saga Ruby is more like a mid-sized luxury ship from North America. MS Saga Ruby is 655-passenger 25,000-ton ship which provides attentive service, entertainment, fine cuisine, and the perfect place to relax onboard- poolside or at the full-service spa. Saga Cruises offers an all-inclusive experience! All fares include travel insurance, gratuities, airfare from selected cities, airport-to-ship transfers. After you come on-board, you will soon discover the difference about Saga experience- the passengers. Thus you may consider Saga Ruby a sort of exclusive floating “club” for people who have already lived the first half century of their lives. In 1973 Saga Ruby sailed her maiden voyage.
In 2003 Saga purchased the vessel from Cunard- at the time she was known as Caronia (previously Vistafjord). After the name change, Saga Ruby was extensively facelifted for £17 million. On-board decors range from contemporary to minimalist. In April 2012 was the launch of Saga’s new cruise ship- Saga Sapphire, and at the end of 2013 the company is saying farewell to the much-loved vessel- Saga Ruby. Saga Ruby joined Saga fleet in 2005 and has charmed thousands of travelers with classic lines and elegant furnishings. Take the chance to sail aboard a classic cruise ship during the final sail season.
Saga Holidays is among the few companies that offer single cabins on cruise ships. Saga Ruby offers ninety-two single cabins, which is almost a quarter of entire Saga Ruby accommodations- there are 383 cabins on board; thirty-four of them feature balconies. All of the cabins have a bathroom with a shower, a wardrobe with drawers; a writing desk or dressing table and chair; a radio; flat-screen television, DVD player, telephone, hair dryer and air conditioning; upon request, twin beds can convert to king-size. Wall-mounted lamps are innovative and flexible- they can be moved about for late-night readers.
The suites offer whirlpool tubs in all of the bathrooms, and duplex suites have two private balconies, sauna, bar area, exercise equipment and library lounge with sound system. Six of the cabins are outfitted and wheelchair access is provided; six other cabins are designated for special needs’ people. For friends who travel in groups, the cabins of X and Y category are suitable for three people. And this is the link to the ship’s official website page, and to its Wikipedia page.
ms Saga Ruby ship dining
Dinner is served open seating because of the small number of travelers on-board. The Dining Room is open nightly from seven to nine p.m. Saga Ruby passengers choose to dine in the alternative Saga Ruby dining venue- the View, reservations required, no extra fee is added. The restaurant is only for twenty-eight passengers, really intimate. It is adjoined by the PreView bar where nightly dancing and music are provided- it is open to all of the passengers and remains small thus maintaining coziness. Passengers can take lunch and breakfast in either the buffet venue or the Dining Room, the Lido Cafe. Also available is 24-hour room service.
Saga Ruby offers daily afternoon tea in the ballroom, midnight buffets- in Lido Cafe. Alcohol prices are affordable, though alcohol is not included into all-inclusive fares- it is almost half the price on mainstream cruise ships. The public area that is most striking is the Saga Ruby’s library- it is a highlight with its dark wood cases and extensive selection of DVD’s and books, leather chairs near the windows. The modern and luxurious Spa Aquarius provides an indoor pool, steam room, sauna and a salon; the brand new gym with its floor-to-ceiling windows, spans just to the width of Bridge Deck. The spa is operated by the U.K. based Harding Brothers, offering usual treatments and a few targeted to Saga audience- “liftosome facial” and “arthritic body and retention fluid treatment and massage”. There is an outdoor pool on Lido deck surrounded by sun loungers.
Most of the passengers on-board Saga Ruby are fifty years old or older- none are younger than forty. Saga Ruby offers child-free relaxed environment for those who seek for quieter experience. It is also the perfect cruise ship for single seniors with a quarter of cabins designed for solo travelers.
